Do Koalas Drink Water?

Koalas usually do not need to drink water, getting suficient water from the leaves they eat. In times of drought they will drink water.

South Australian Summers are very dry and all the gum leaves dry up, so its not uncommon to see koalas getting crafty in ways to drink water!

It is not uncommon to have koalas wandering about in our gardens, roads and sometimes even into homes searching for a cool drop of H2O.

I have had a koala follow me into my house, into my garden and on a walk until I present them with a bowl of water.

Meet little Meadow, she was getting a bit too cosy during a heatwave, so an animal lover in Adelaide took her in and gave her a nice cold bath to cool down...

When a koala is dehydrated, they know YOU the Hooman can give them water! Take Mrs. Sun's story for instance...

After sustaining long eye contact with Mrs Sun's husband for several minutes, the koala succumbed to the prospect of a cool drink of water and climbed down from the tree.
Not only did the koala hit the streets of Athelstone for a leisurely stroll, it almost threatened to get behind the wheel of Mrs Sun's car.
"When I opened the car door, she was poking her head to look inside my car, I guess for more water?," she said.

"She kept looking at me and looked like she wanted something, so I poured some water in my palm, and the koala drank it at once."
But that was not enough.

"At times she grabbed the bottle to tip it higher, just like humans, and as if she's done it many times before," Mrs Sun said.
"After she finished the whole bottle, she was waving her hand, I guess, for more water.
"She followed me for an hour and ended up drinking three bottles altogether - definitely the friendliest koala I've ever seen."

Koala hails Cyclists for water...

Don't mind if I do!
